Counselling and Psychotherapy
For the relief of distress in a tranquil and understanding atmosphere.
My aim is to help and support my clients in working through their concerns and helping them to maximise the quality of life.
According to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy [BACP] “counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing”
My professional stance is based on working with each client as an individual who has their own way of looking at the world. My practice is client led and I work with a number of different models of counselling and psychotherapy, integrating what is required into the therapy according to the needs of each client.
Research shows that psychotherapy works and the evidence for this is found in thousands of individual studies and in hundreds of meta-analyses conducted over several decades. A client receiving counselling or psychotherapy is better off than 79% of people who need therapy, but who are not able to access it.
Research has also shown that what clients value in their therapy is a counsellor who can listen to their concerns, who is non-judgemental and someone who is outside of their family and friends. Studies show that clients like to work with a counsellor who can support them in their work and whose training, skills and experience help them to work through their issues. Counselling is seen as a safe place to talk through concerns and to work on moving forward. I recognise that the need for a client to feel comfortable in a good, working therapeutic relationship is vital and I aim to offer this to every client.
